Floor Patterns
With these floor patterns there is less emphasis on making them usable at 1/350 - though I have included 6"x4" printable jpgs for some of them. On most of them I have not defined the exact room shapes on them, rather I have simply repeated the pattern over a large enough span at scale so relevant area can be covered. I am making them available here mostly as A4 PDFs which can be resized up or down to scale, with a reference ruler on them to guide sizing.
Some of these PDFs use bitmaps (as opposed to vector-graphics) for the tiles so there's a limit to how big they can go; however they were originally created as resolution-independent vector-graphics, so could therefore be printed at any size in their primary form. I have not included all the full vector versions because the files are enormous, and also because these are Copyrighted to me, as opposed to the Creative Commons license of the lower-res versions, and I would charge a fee to send a copy. Again, all these images are only allowed to be used for non-commercial use, so if you do wish to use them commercially, at least have the courtesy to email me to acknowledge this and I may ask a small fee depending on their use.

1st Class Entrance/Reception Tiling
This pattern of flooring was in most of the entrance and reception areas immediately around both the Grand and After (rear) Staircases. Around the Grand, this was from Boat Deck down to D Deck; with the After Staircase it was in B Deck and probably C, but pictures of the Olympic in TTSM show plain flooring at the top level of the After Staircase on A Deck, rather than this. The surface of the stairs themselves of the two staircases were not patterned, but were the same off-white as the in-between plain tiles in this pattern.
Included here is a 1/350 6”x4” print - though most of the detail is lost - and a PDF with full resolution-independent vector-graphic version of the tile. The shape of the rooms involved aren’t marked out, but it’s a large enough span at scale to cover any of these areas. |

2nd & 3rd Class 9" Tiling
These rubber-cork linoleum 9” square tiles were used in 2nd and 3rd Class entrance, reception, stairway and other public areas. Referring to TTSM Vol2, they appeared in several colours - red, green, black and blue.
So far I have been able to note the following usages:
I have made A4 PDFs of this tile in green, red and black, repeating the pattern over a large enough span in scale to cover any areas which used this tile pattern - and including a ruler for reference. To keep the file size low these PDFs use the bitmap version of the tiles, but this should still be usable at 1/100 or under. I have not made 1/350 6”x4” versions because these areas probably would not receive interior treatments at this scale - however the PDFs can still be scaled down for this purpose if need be. 2nd & 3rd Class 6" Tiling
These are the 6 inch version of the rubber-cork linoleum square tiles - which are the same shape pressings as the 9 inch but without the 1.5" border piece which adds 3" to the diameter of each tile. These were also used in 2nd and 3rd Class areas, but often in smaller rooms, including accommodation and work areas. I have made sheets of them in green, red and blue, and according to TTSM V2 p61 also brown was used. I am currently compiling a list of areas where these appeared - though often there is little information other than photos from the Olympic, and even then they are in black and white, and anyway the Titanic differed from it.
I have made A4 PDFs of this tile in green, red and blue, using the 600dpi bitmap version of the tile - so they should be usable at any modelling scale. The span that the pattern repeats over at scale should cover any of the rooms this floor pattern was used in, and the images include a reference ruler to use for sizing. 1st Class D-Deck Dining Saloon
This pattern was used in the large expanse of the D-Deck 1st Class Dining Saloon, which was 113ft long by 90ft wide, the full width of the ship. The material was linoleum with the pattern cut into different coloured sections. Without information about the size of this, I am guessing it repeated at 2ft x 2ft intervals like many other patterns on the Olympic ships.
The colours of this are based on the fragment recovered from the wreck, albeit with the blue very faded; B&W photos in TTSM V2 pp362-366 of the Olympic clearly show it had the same pattern, with some suggesting it shared the same colour-scheme, others not. A printed reproduction of this pattern also appears in the restored SS Nomadic, with a red background, black patterning and the same yellow pattern centres. Included here is an A4 PDF which gives just a sample of this pattern, tiling a 600dpi bitmap to keep the file size down, making a 585kb PDF file. Because this room was so large - the largest ever in a ship at the time - I haven't made a sheet which repeats the pattern at scale to cover it - email me to request this. |

Boat-Deck Gymnasium
These tiles were likely to be 12" square, but I could only judge the size of the black diamond squares from photos. Although it seems most flooring patterns were in exact inches, these appear to be 2.5" wide. For scale effect I made the diamonds dark grey, though in reality they probably weren't 100% black.
Included here is a 6"x4" JPG for 1/350 use, and also a resolution-independent vector-graphics PDF. |

Verandah - Palm Court
This pair of rooms at the aft end of A-Deck had simple 12" square checked tiles laid diagonally. Most images depict the dark tiles as being a dark grey-brown.
Here is a PDF image with resolution-independent vector-graphics, and a reference ruler, so it can be easily resized. A 1/350 resize version of this is part of the Verandah-Palm Court walling JPG (see Wall Panelling section). |
